Roman Danko

Senior Platform & Reliability Engineer

I build platform infrastructure and the observability that keeps it honest. Served from a homelab I've operated since 2013.

Day job

Platform & Reliability at scale

Ten-plus years operating production infrastructure across Linux, networking, Kubernetes, and observability. I previously carried a Kubernetes platform of roughly five thousand pods across multiple environments; now I work on application platform engineering, building shared infrastructure, automation, and operational guardrails that let teams move faster without making production fragile.

About this homelab

What started in 2013 as somewhere to learn Linux properly is now a production-grade homelab for infrastructure experiments: orchestration, storage, networking, identity, backups, monitoring, and release automation. The site you're reading is served from it.

The interesting part isn't the stack itself; it's that the stack keeps changing while the data stays safe and the rollback path stays visible. Recent and ongoing work:

2013A Linux lab grew into a living personal infrastructure
2019Clickops gave way to Git, Terraform, and Ansible
2020One-box comfort was rebuilt into resilient foundations
2022Workloads moved onto a leaner Kubernetes backbone
2025Old hardware left the stage; the rebuild got interesting
nowBackup hardening, security cleanup, cost control, and the next hardware chapter

Same discipline as the day job, at a hobby's scale.

Live status: status.romandanko.sk — deliberately hosted off-cluster, so when this site is down, it isn't.
